The book, The Sledding Hill was a very interesting book, and I thought that it was very compelling. In the book, Eddie has just lost his dad and has a hard time dealing with it, and his best friend ends up helping him and then dies, because a piece of Sheetrock falls on his head. So Eddie has to deal with two deaths in less than a couple months. After that, he joins a class called, Really Modern Literature, and they discuss a book called, Warren Peece. The book has a lot of complications and issues that kids would deal with. After that, some students address it to the church and the priest, Tarter, and they ban the book, so none of the students are allowed to read it. With that, some of the students try reading it behind their backs, and get caught. For giving the students the book, Mrs. Lloyd, gets fired. All of the students are furious, because she was doing her job. Eddie then joins a group called Youth for Christ, which want to ban the book, but by joining the group he has a chance to talk with Tarter and the church. He brings in Chris Crutcher to help emphasize his point, and that the book teaches young kids how to handle these kinds of things.
The setting is in a small religious town that, realizes on the church to help them. So, they need to learn to get out of their boundaries, and they should go to church, but rely on themselves. They need to take chances and start doing what people wouldn't expect, and do extraordinary things.
No one really changes except Eddie, and his dad and Billy, who end up dying. Eddie changes in a lot of ways, because he has to deal with two deaths in a short time. He feels sad, and then gets angry with Tarter, for taking away the book. He also changes because he starts to talk with people, and he starts to open more up. Also, he changes because he starts to like a girl named Montana.
Eddie- is a normal boy, who is going through a hard time, and has mixed emotions, and that is why he has to deal with these deaths.
Tarter- The priest at the church, who starts trying to help Eddie with his problems and his emotions.
Montana- A girl in Eddie's RML class, and starts to hang out with Eddie, and they grow fond of each other, and start to really like each other.
Mrs. Proffit- She is just a normal charecter, used sometimes, and all she wants is for her son to be happy and grow up, and have a good life.
Billy- Was in the beggining of the story, and helps Eddie get over his dad's death, and then when they are together one day, Billy dies.
